年金振込通知書: Japan Pension Payment / Revision Notice Explained
This document from the 日本年金機構 (Japan Pension Service) tells you the amount of pension being paid to you — it is a notice, not a bill asking for payment. The 年金振込通知書 (payment notice) shows the pension amount coming to you and the breakdown of tax, nursing-care insurance and other deductions taken from it. The 年金額改定通知書 (revision notice) tells you the new figure when your pension amount is 改定 (revised). Pension is normally paid into your chosen account once every two months. Amounts, payment dates and deductions differ per person, so always check the figures and the account name printed on your own notice.

People receiving a pension — old-age (老齢), disability (障害) or survivors' (遺族) — get this from the Japan Pension Service. The payment notice is sent when your paid amount or deductions change (often once a year, around June). The revision notice arrives when your pension amount is revised due to price or system changes. Nationality does not matter if you are receiving a pension. ⛔ Claiming a pension requires proper procedures; treat any call or text pressuring you to 'go to an ATM for unpaid pension' as a likely scam.
What to do
- 1Check the payment amount printed on the notice and the breakdown of tax, nursing-care insurance and other deductions taken from it.
- 2Confirm the payout account is in your own name and note the scheduled payment date.
- 3For a 年金額改定通知書, check the new revised amount (increase or decrease). No action is normally needed.
- 4This notice is not a bill and does not ask you to pay anything — normally you just receive and keep it.
- 5If you have questions about the amount or deductions, or nothing arrives after the payment date, contact the pension office or pension dial listed on the notice or on your pension record yourself.
About the deadline
This notice says money 'will be paid to you' — it is not something you must pay by a date. Pension is normally paid in even-numbered months (once every two months), covering the previous two months together. Only if the payment date passes well over with nothing arriving, or a changed account is not reflected, should you contact the pension office on the notice yourself. Some filings (such as an account change) have their own deadlines, so if your address or account changes, handle it promptly.
Common misunderstandings
- Is this a bill I have to pay?
- No. It tells you the pension amount being paid to you — it is not a bill. Normally you just receive and keep it; no payment is triggered. Tax and nursing-care insurance are deducted automatically from the payment amount.
- My pension is lower / higher than last year. Why?
- Pension amounts can be revised for price or system changes, which the revision notice reflects. Also, if the deducted tax, nursing-care insurance or medical premiums change, the net amount you receive changes too. The breakdown is on the notice.
- The payment date passed but nothing arrived.
- First check your bankbook and the account name. If still nothing, contact the pension office or pension dial on the notice yourself. Possible reasons include an account change not yet reflected or an account that can no longer be used.
- I got a call or text saying 'there is unpaid pension for you'.
- The Japan Pension Service does not phone to guide you through an ATM or ask for a fee or PIN for a refund, and generally does not ask you to act via an SMS link. Do not comply; look up the official number yourself and confirm.
